New Jersey Englishtown Raceway Park
Englishtown Raceway Park is a historic racing venue located in Englishtown, New Jersey. The track has been in operation since 1965 and has hosted some of the biggest names in motorsports over the years. Today, the raceway is home to a number of different race series and special events. Let’s take a look at the history of this iconic motorsports facility.
The Early Years: 1965-1981
Englishtown Raceway Park was founded in 1965 by Harold and EdIEnders. The track was built on the site of an old horse racing facility and originally consisted of a quarter-mile dragstrip. In its early years, the track was popular with street racers and quickly gained a reputation for being one of the fastest strips in the Northeast.
Over the next few years, the track underwent several expansions and improvements. In 1968, a 1/8-mile strip was added so that vehicles could reach speeds of up to 130 miles per hour. A year later, a much longer 1/4-mile strip was constructed. This new strip allowed cars to reach speeds in excess of 200 miles per hour!
The 1970s were a decade of firsts for Englishtown Raceway Park. In 1974, the track held its first National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) national event. The following year, it became the first track in New Jersey to be sanctioned by NHRA. In 1979, Freehold Raceway Mall became the first shopping mall in America to host an NHRA national event.
The Modern Era: 1982-Present
In 1982, Harold and Edie Enders sold Englishtown Raceway Park to Robert E. Plumeri Sr., who owned a number of other racing facilities across the country. Under Plumeri’s ownership, the track underwent another expansion with the addition of a 2.25-mile road course in 1984. This new course allowed for both car and motorcycle racing events.
In 2004, Plumeri sold Englishtown Raceway Park to Bruce Fenigstein, who had previously owned Marlboro Raceway Park. Fenigstein made a number of improvements to the facility, including repaving the dragstrip, installing new lighting, and adding concession stands and restrooms. He also expanded the road course to its current length of 2.52 miles.
Fenigstein sold Englishtown Raceway Park to Pritpal Singh in 2011. Singh made additional improvements to the facility, including upgrading the timing system and renovating the pits area. He also added several new safety features, such as tire walls and catch nets.
Today, Englishtown Raceway Park hosts a wide variety of race series and special events throughout the year. These include drag racing, road racing, drifting, karting, motocross, truck pulling, and more! Whether you’re a casual fan or a hardcore gearhead, there’s something for everyone at Englishtown Raceway Park.

New Jersey’s Best Kept Secret – Wharton State Forest
Nestled in the heart of the Pine Barrens, Wharton State Forest is a state park that spanning over 500,000 acres! And did I mention that it has some of the best dirt bike trails in New Jersey? In this blog post, I’m going to give you a rundown of some of my favorite trails in the park.
Batsto Village Trail
This trail is a must-do when you’re visiting Wharton State Forest. It starts at the historic Batsto Village and winds its way through some beautiful scenery. The trail is about 10 miles long and is rated as moderate.
Pleasant Mills Path
This trail is shorter than the Batsto Village Trail, but it’s no less scenic. The Pleasant Mills Path runs for about 6 miles and takes you through some of the most picturesque parts of Wharton State Forest.
Atsion Ranger Station Trail
The Atsion Ranger Station Trail is one of the more challenging trails in the park. It’s about 11 miles long and has a few steep climbs. But the views from the top are worth it!
